You are too impatient
In your eager search for the now
You’ve left no time for reflection
On ‘the once was’ or the ‘what will be’
I will tell you to slow down and enjoy the ride
I know you will not listen
You will not listen to anyone
Just stop trying so hard
Let us wear out our life
Listening to the wind in the trees
Feel the summer warmth on our face
Breathe the coolness of the evening
Hear the music of nature drifting across open meadows
Smell the intoxicating scent of wild flowers
Opening their souls to worship the morning sun
I know that in your rush to reach
What you believe to be success
You will ignore it all
Until you realize that it was not worth it
I pity your journey
Great evocation, Jerry, of ‘what might have been’ – If we knew then what we know now!

I have to wonder though if I would have changed the past, what would I be today…better?

That was… Sad! The things we ignore!

There is a great line in ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ that says, “youth is wasted on the young”.

I love the lines
“Smell the intoxicating scent of wild flowers
Opening their souls to worship the morning sun”.
And I like the whole concept of addressing your younger self. Best of all, I sense that you look at that person with understanding and empathy; you now think that they were wrong-headed, but you have forgiven yourself for that and are at peace.

True, I am what I am because of that impetuous youth. Maybe I am more jealous of the freedom of youth than angry.

Haha, yes! There is a lot more freedom now! I think I’m most jealous of the energy of youth!

The nice thing about youth, it has time to recover from mistakes made. Age does not have that luxury.

Thanks Davy. One of the drawbacks of getting older is second guessing the past.
