A last glance through tearful eyes
As you vanished into the past
Taking with you my childhood
You were alone and silent
Beneath your lambent glow
A pillar of hope against the darkness
I will always remember you
Encased in a bubble of murky light
My oasis, my haven shielded from the world
You taught me to love
To forgive, to hope, to dream
You gave me courage
You showed me the questions
Gave me freedom to act
Allowed me to make mistakes
You will live a long and prosperous life
In my heart and memories
Goodbye my dear friend.
Nice one

Always. It seems that, in our memories at least, everything was a little greener and the world was a happier place.

Sad and moving. I remember some of your earlier posts on its demise, Jerry.

yes, it was erased in 1992 by a flood the is said to happen once in a hundred years. Sad but if it would have survived that one, it would have been wiped out again this year by another 100 year flood.

A beautiful write. Sad, too. But you do hold it in your heart, your memories, and words.

Your whole hometown is gone? Wow… that’s really sad. I lived in Hawai’i for a few years and a dear friend’s hometown was buried by lava. Just devastating!
