His cell phone has a hinge. He’s been driving the same minivan for 15 years. His dinner is water and a bologna sandwich. He has a twenty inch TV without cable. Every dime scrutinized, every penny saved. Never uses credit. Nothing wasted. He checks his savings and 401K every month. Each year he analyses his Social Security payout statement. His sacrifice will pay off in retirement. It’s going to be done right. Travel anywhere he wants, eat anything he pleases. He won’t be dependent on anyone. For his 64th birthday his doctor gave him a surprise gift of six months.
That ending was a big surprise. Well done.

It’s kind of depressing but the reality of life. Live in the moment.

Absolutely. We must still prepare for our final years but not to the point of sacrificing the quality of life now.

Sorry for your loss. We must always be a player in the band and not stand by and watch as the parade passes us.

Thanks Jerry.
Yes, indeed. Something to tell ourselves every day!

That was very good. Reminds me of some people I know. But so true!

It’s definitely a balancing act. We don’t want to sacrifice our future for today’s pleasures. But we can’t pass up enjoying the now in hopes of a comfortable future. Life is never easy is it my friend?

The inevitability of death is the gift we cannot escape, whatever kind of life we have lived. Your tale is powerfully told, Jerry.

Excellent! Plans are great but don’t spend your life making plans and forget to live.

Now Jerry,
There is a saying in Australia that can be summed up as “You scratch my back. I’ll scratch yours.” In blogging terms it means, “If you follow and comment on my blog posts I’ll do the same.”
Anyway, you Yankee bastard. how about this:-
A HUSBAND and wife getting on in years were chatting about life after one of them died.
“What would you do if I died first?” the husband asked.
After some thought, his wife said that she’d probably look for a house-sharing situation with three other single or widowed women who might be a little younger than herself, since she was so active for her age.
“What would you do if I die first?” the wife asked.
The husband replied, “Probably the same thing.”

I had to chuckle and snort a little on this one. I do know the saying well. We have the same version in America. However my friend, many blogs I follow I know will never follow me. I’ll follow anyone if I like what they have to say.
